Arenal Observatory Lodge

This Arenal hotel was constructed in 1987 as an observatory for the Smithsonian Institute and is the only observatory located within Arenal National Park. Arenal Observatory Lodge offers the some of the area's most stunning views of the volcano and Arenal Lake. Only a twenty minutes drive from the small town of La Fortuna, Costa Rica, volcano and nature lovers alike can feast their eyes on the majesty of Arenal Volcano in its lush tropical setting. Arenal Observatory Lodge is a great choice for your Arenal Volcano Hotel.

Arenal Observatory Lodge Accommodations

Arenal Observatory Lodge offers 43 rooms in various buildings spread over the beautifully maintained property. Most have a lava flow view of Arenal Volcano.

Junior Suites: Arenal Observatory Lodge rooms with a volcano view through large picture windows framing the often active side of the imposing volcano; see the volcano from the room or enjoy the natural beauty of Arenal Lake from the comfort of your private deck. The walls are decorated with original ceramic paintings created by a local artist illustrating the area’s flora and fauna. For your comfort each of these suites is furnished with two king-size beds, a small living room, coffeemaker, mini refrigerator and room safe.

Smithsonian Rooms: Arenal Observatory Lodge rooms featuring large picture windows providing you an outstanding view of Arenal Volcano from the comfort of your bed. Each room offers 2 double beds (queen-size), a private bathroom, coffee maker and room safe. Some Smithsonian rooms have balconies providing a magnificent view of the volcano.

Standard Rooms: Arenal Observatory Lodge rooms featuring another way to enjoy a breathtaking view of Arenal Volcano and/or take in the beauty of Arenal Lake from your balcony. Each of these rooms offers two double beds (queen-size), a private bathroom, coffeemaker and room safe.

La Casona: Arenal Observatory Lodge La Casona offers perfect group or family accommodations and is set 500 meters from the main building. It's 5 comfortable, value-priced rooms with a large terrace provide an impressive view of the volcano and Arenal Lake. Four rooms are furnished with a queen-size bed and offer a beautiful volcano room view; the fifth room has 3 bunk beds with a view of the enchanting rainforest. All have room safes. The two large, comfortable bathrooms are shared by all La Casona guests.

White Hawk Villa: The Arenal Observatory Lodge White Hawk Villa offers peaceful surroundings and the ultimate magnificent view of Arenal Volcano and lake. The White Hawk Villa is approx. 800 meters from the rest of the hotel. It offers group or family accommodations and is recommended for guests with their own transportation or those who enjoy walking. The main level entrance takes you into a large, well-ventilated living room with satellite television, a dining room and a fully-equipped kitchen. The lower level can accommodate 8 people in its two bedrooms, "Trogon" and "Toucan", each with a queen-size bed, two twin beds, private bathroom and room safe.
