Playa Montezuma

Montezuma is an offbeat, beach side village located on the southern most tip of the Nicoya Peninsula near Mal Pais and Santa Teresa. The village is famous for it's laid back surfer - rasta - hippie vibe. There is always something to do or a small party to be found in the quaint town, which is surounded by towering cliffs spilling cascading waterfalls with natural swimming holes beneath them. Montezuma offers travelers excellent snorkeling, swimming, and surfing right in front of the town center.

Montezuma is a beach town located on the southern most tip of the Nicoya Peninsula. This tourist favorite is approximately a 3 hour drive from Liberia, 5 1/2 hours drive from San Jose, 5 hours from Manuel Antonio, 3 hours from Monteverde, and 4 hours from the La Fortuna, Arenal Volcano Region. Visitors can take a ferry across the Gulf from Puntarenas. Water taxis are also available, and are a popular way for tourists to access this remote area. Please keep in mind that all drive times are approximate, depending on road conditions, as well as Costa Rica driving experience.

Located on the southern Nicoya Peninsula, Montezuma offers a relatively dry climate. From December through April, one can expect temperatures to reach a high in the low to mid 90's and a low in the 70's with very little rainfall. From May through November, one can expect temperatures to reach a high in the upper 80's and a low in the 70's with more prevelent rainfall. The rainfall during this time of the year is generally limited to late afternoons and early evenings (though it can rain at any given time).

One can experience everything from Rappelling down rain forest waterfalls to canopy exploration to Dolphin and Whale watching before watching a magnificent Pacific sunset from one of the many pristine beaches in this beach lovers paradise.
