Many describe Playa Hermosa and the Gulf of Papagayo as the most convenient and beautiful beach areas in Costa Rica. In recent years these small fishing villages have been transformed into booming luxury resort communities. Both Playa Hermosa and Papagayo Gulf area have gained their newly found popularity mainly through the construction of Daniel O'Duber International Airport, located in Liberia at approximately 30 minutes drive. This area is recognized for it's natural beauty as well as the calm turquoise waters that provide perfect swimming conditions year round. All Inclusives and luxury resorts line the coastlines as well tourist shops, kiosks and restaurants.

The Location: Playa Hermosa and the Gulf of Papagayo are beach towns located in the Northwest corner of Costa Rica, in the Province of Guanacaste. These tourist favorites are approximately a 30 minute drive from Liberia, 3 1/2 hours drive from San Jose, 3 1/2 hours from Manuel Antonio, 2 1/2 hours from Monteverde, and 3 hours from the La Fortuna, Arenal Volcano Region. Please keep in mind that all drive times are approximate, depending on road conditions, as well as Costa Rica driving experience.

The Climate: Located in the Northwest Pacific coastal dryforests, Playa Hermosa and the Gulf of Papagayo offer a dry climate. From December through April, one can expect temperatures to reach a high in the low to mid 90's and a low in the 70's with very little rainfall. From May through November, one can expect temperatures to reach a high in the upper 80's and a low in the 70's with more prevelent rainfall. The rainfall during this time of the year is generally limited to late afternoons and early evenings (though it can rain at any given time).
