Puerto Jimenez, Costa Rica

Description: Puerto Jimenez has been described as a full fledge rootin' tootin', wild west type of town located in the Province of Puntarenas, on the Golfo Dulce side of the Osa Peninsula. A tourist favorite, many come to Puerto Jimenez not only for it's beautiful beach, but also for Corcovado National Park, which is located just south of the village. A writer for National Geographic Magazine actually described this area as being among the world's most biologically intense places. Prior to the creation of the national park, Puerto Jimenez was a logging and mining town for gold. This has led to a residual effect with a somewhat "shady" environment, particularly at night.

The Location of Puerto Jimenez is on eastern side of the Osa Peninsula, which in turn is located in the Southwest corner of Costa Rica. There are very few paved roads in this region. As it is approximately a 9 - 10 hour drive from San Jose, most visitors to this region choose to take a domestic flight to the Puerto Jimenez Airport. There is also a ferry available to Golfito.
