Description: Puerto Viejo de Talamanca is an offbeat, beach side village located in the Province of Limon on the southern Caribbean coast of Costa Rica. The village is famous for it's laid back surfer - rasta - hippie vibe. Puerto Viejo offers travelers beautiful palm studded beaches and excellent snorkeling, swimming, and surfing right in front of the town center. The small village is comprised mostly of bungalow hotels, restaurants, bars, and surf shops. Tourists that visit Puerto Viejo, generally come for the famous surf and night life.

The Location: Puerto Viejo de Talamanca is a beach town located located just south of Cahuita, in the Province of Limon, on the southern Caribbean coast of Costa Rica. This tourist favorite is approximately a 7 hour drive from Liberia, 4 hour drive from San Jose, 6 1/2 hours from Manuel Antonio, 6 1/2 hours from Monteverde, and 4 hours from the La Fortuna, Arenal Volcano Region. Please keep in mind that all drive times are approximate, depending on road conditions, as well as Costa Rica driving experience.

The Climate: Located on the southern Caribbean coast, Puerto Viejo offers a relatively wet climate. Unlike the rest of the country, the Caribbean side of Costa Rica does not experience a dramatic wet and dry season. The rainfall is generally distributed throughout the year, though certain months are wetter than others. The best weather on the Caribbean can be experienced in the months of February, March, September, and October. (though it can rain at any given time).
