San Isidro, Costa Rica Information |
Description: San Isidro, Costa Rica is also affectionately referred to by locals as Perez Zeledon. This is the largest city in the southern zone of Costa Rica. Perez Zeledon is located in the province of San Jose, in the Valley of the General, surrounded by the Talamanca Mountains. Mainly an agricultural and trade center, many tourists utilize San Isidro de General as a stopping point when traveling between San Jose and other Northern Costa Rica destinations and Southern Costa Rica destinations such as Dominical, Uvita, Golfito, Puerto Jimezez, and the Osa Peninsula. Perez Zeledon is also a great town to prepare for treks to Cerro Chirripo, which is Costa Rica's highest peak and most challenging climb. |
The Location: San Isidro de General or Perez Zeledon is located in the province of San Jose, in the Valley of the General, surrounded by the Talamanca Mountains. Perez Zeledon is approximately a 2 1/2 hours drive from San Jose, 2 hours from Manuel Antonio, 6 hours from Monteverde, and 5 hours from the La Fortuna, Arenal Volcano Region. Please keep in mind that all drive times are approximate, depending on road conditions, as well as Costa Rica driving experience.
The Climate: Located in the Talamanca Mountains of Costa Rica, Perez Zeledon offers a very comfortable climate. From December through April, one can expect temperatures to reach a high in the low to mid 80's and a low in the 60's with very little rainfall. From May through November, one can expect temperatures to reach a high in the upper 70's and a low in the 50's with more prevelent rainfall. The rainfall during this time of the year is generally limited to late afternoons and early evenings (though it can rain at any given time). |
