Playa Uvita

Playa Uvita

Playa Uvita is an offbeat surfer town located on the lush, tropical, southern Pacific coast (Costa Ballena or Whale Coast) of Costa Rica approximately 16 kilometers south of Dominical. In recent years, this small fishing village has been transformed into a popular beach town with a fun vibe, and at times, wild nightlife. Uvita has gained it's newly found popularity mainly through the surfer community that flocks to this area because of it's world known consistent and large surf breaks. The town and the beaches are located within the protected Marino Ballena National Park. Generally, Uvita is considered to be an adults' playground, and not particularly family friendly at night. The southern Pacific coast of Costa Rica remains somewhat localized due to poor road conditions, though this has recently improved with the completion of Rt. 34 which allows paved access up the Central Pacific coast.

Uvita is a southern Pacific beach town located in the Province of Puntarenas, Costa Rica. Uvita is approximately a 5 1/2 hours drive from San Jose, 2 hour from Manuel Antonio, 5 hours from Monteverde, 7 1/2 hours from Liberia and 5 hours from the La Fortuna, Arenal Volcano region. Please keep in mind that all drive times are approximate, depending on road conditions, as well as Costa Rica driving experience.

Located in the Southern Pacific coastal rainforests, Uvita offers a tropical, moist climate. From December through April, one can expect temperatures to reach a high in the low to mid 90's and a low in the 70's with limited rainfall.
