Guanacaste Beaches

Guanacaste is not only home to some of the most spectacular beaches in Costa Rica (see below), this region is steep in history and culture. The namesake of the province is the Guanacaste Tree, which is the national tree of Costa Rica. Along its eastern borders are a chain of volcanoes that stretch out to join the Cordillera de Guanacaste and Cordillera de Tilaran mountain ranges. The area offers incredible views of the surrounding countryside ripe with lush dense forests you will find an abundance of exotic plant and wildlife, many rare and endangered animals and birds live here including jaguars and tapirs. From these mountains flow many rivers that eventually empty into the Nicoya Gulf. The area also boasts beautiful beaches with stunning shorelines. With its outstanding beauty and with so much to do it is no wonder so many come to visit this amazing province.

Guanacaste is located in the north west side of Costa Rica which is considered Tropical Dry Forest. The area experiences little rain and continual heat from November to April, and a wet season from late May to November. It is a hot dry climate with one exception the highland portion of the area which maintains the peaks of the volcanoes in Guanacaste Cordillera and Tilaran Cordillera. The cool, conditions along these peaks lend to the conditions of a cloud forest. The best time to visit Guancaste is anytime. No matter if you choose the dry season or the wet season, both provide wonderful and inviting differences.

Preparation is a key part toward your enjoyment of this area. No matter what time of the year, pack accordingly. Bring a rain jacket, both long and short pants, sneakers sandals, and hiking boots. Make sure not to forget your camera, binoculars, and batteries.
