Rincon de la Vieja 
Rincon de la Vieja Volcano is located in the Northwestern section of the country within the province of Guanacaste. This location is one of the countries most geographically interesting areas to visit with four volcanoes, Rincon de la Vieja, Orosi, Santa Maria and Miravalles within close proximity to each other.
There is plenty to do in the Rincon de la Vieja area. One of the most exiting and best ways to check it out is by taking a canopy tour of the forests. Offering some of the best views of the national parks below, these tours give tourists an exceptional look at the incredible beauty of Costa Rica. For even more adventure, try white water tubing or horseback riding, followed by a relaxing dip in the therapeutic sulfur hot springs near the Volcan Rincon de la Vieja. This area is also home to plenty of wildlife including, but not limited to the Spider Monkey, the Blue-crowned Marmot, the Emerald Toucan, jaguars, cougars and tapirs. Also found in abundance are, Guaria Morada orchids, the National flowers of Costa Rica as well as the Laurel and Guanacaste trees.
Rincon de la Vieja is easily accessible via Daniel Oduber International Airport in Liberia, which is under an hour drive by car. The GPS coordinates are roughly 10°49′48″N 85°19′26″W.
The Pacific (western) side of this area is dry between December and April; the Caribbean (eastern) side is lush and rainy year-round, seeing almost 200 inches of annual rainfall.
Because the weather in this area can vary widely, you should pack accordingly. This should include a raincoat, long as well as short sleeve pants, hiking boots, sneakers and maybe some sandals. Don’t forget the camera, binoculars, and batteries.
If you plan on hiking up any of the four volcanoes, remember to take plenty of drinking water as well as a light coat as the weather can change closer to the top. Remember there is always a fee for the National Parks. These fees vary but they are usually reasonable. It is our suggestion that, whenever possible, you seek the service of a guide.
