Piedras Blancas National Park
Costa Rica National Parks » Piedras Blancas National Park

While not as well know as Corcovado National Park or Golfito National Park, Piedras Blancas National Park, which connects the 2 parks, is just as exciting and is like a little Cordovado!  With 330 species of birds, it is considered one of the best bird watching parks in Costa Rica. With its tall dense evergreen primary forest and diverse flora and fauna, spectacular waterfalls and rivers, this is truly a park you will want to include in your trip!  All 4 monkey species, a large number of snakes and reptiles, ocelots, jaguars and pumas, toucans and scarlet macaws all live in this area. You can actually “track” land animals and reptiles on “animal tracking tours”!  The beaches are beautiful on the long coastline with coral reefs offshore that attract much marine life including dolphins, whales, and rays.

Many people also come to Piedras Blancas National Park for the fishing.  During the dry season you may catch marlin, roosterfish, and sailfish in the Gulfo Dulce.  During the wet season you can find wahoo, tuna and mahimahi.  Many local restaurants will cook your catch!

The vegetation in Piedras Blancas National Park (with many rare plants) is lush all year round thanks to the over 200” rainfall yearly.  It is hot and humid most days with a drier season from December - April.

Piedras Blancas National Park about 200 miles from San Jose located in Puntarenas province on the southern Pacific coast of Costa Rica. Lat - 8.7, Long - 83.35.  The park consists of 34,642 acres and was established in 1991.  Admission is free from dawn to dusk.
