Central Valley

Many describe the Central Valley and San Jose area as an oasis of technology in the center of Costa Rica. This area is dotted with scenic hillsides and volcanoes, including the famous and active Poas and Irazu Volcanoes. The emerald green hillsides of this region are lined with coffee plantations. Alajuela, which is home to Juan Santamaria International Airport is located at 18 kilometers West of San Jose is considered to be one of the cleanest cities in Central America.

The Location of San Jose is in the center of Costa Rica. San Jose is approximately a 3 hour drive from La Fortuna, 3 hours from Manuel Antonio, 4 hours from Monteverde, 4 hours from Liberia and 5 - 5 1/2 hours from Tamarindo. Please keep in mind that all drive times are approximate and depend on road conditions, as well as Costa Rica driving experience.

The Climate of the Central Valley and San Jose is cosidered by many to be the most comfortable climate on the planet! During the months of December through April, one can expect temperatures to reach a high in the low 80's and a low in the 60's with limited rainfall. From May through November, one can expect temperatures to reach a high in the upper 70's and a low in the 60's with more prevalent rainfall. The rainfall in the Central Valley and San Jose area during this time of the year is generally limited to late afternoons and early evenings (though it can rain at any given time).
