"Guy and I arrived home yesterday from Costa Rica, and I wanted to write to thank you for making our trip run so smoothly. I heard references to things running on "Tico time" but all of our transfers and connections reminded me of traveling in Germany, where precision of arrival and departure times is a hallmark. Even though our plane required de-icing in Denver and arrival in San Jose was deplayed for about an hour, our guide and driver, Peter, was there waiting for us. He was quite personable and shared his extensive knowledge of Costa Rica's plants, culture, and economy with us, making the drive to Monte Verde pleasant despite the "massage" from the road...

 Day 1: Welcome to Costa Rica! Upon arrival to Juan Santamaria
International Airport, you will be greeted by a Pacific Trade Winds S.A.
representative. You will then be brought to the 4 Star Hampton Inn and Suites located in Alajuela. This is a standard room that offers your choice of a one King size bed or two Queen size beds. This room also comes furnished with a small refrigerator for any refreshments and a microwave oven for your convenience. Breakfast included daily. (Rental Car can be substituted for provided transportation. Inquire for details.) |
 Day 2: Transportation will be provided to the Laguna Lodge located in Tortuguero. Along the way, you will be transported
by boat through the Tortuguero Canals. After lunch, you will
visit the small town of Tortuguero along with its museum and
beach. All rooms offer private bathroom, hot water, ceiling
fan, reading lamps, wooden bench outside your room to sit
and admire the gardens. During your stay, all meals and
natural drinks will be included as well. |
Day 3: Start off the day with a sunrise on the Caribbean
Cruise through the Tortuguero Canals. Later, you will have
the option of going on a guided hike to Tortuguero Hill or
another river boat cruise through the canals. There is an
optional night tour to observe Green Turtles nesting (July
through September). |
 Day 4: You will start off the day with a sunrise boat tour through the
Tortuguero Canals. Upon completion of the tour you will be brought
back to the lodge to check out. Transportation will then be provided to the 4 Star Arenal Springs Resort & Spa or Montana de Fuego Resort & Spa. Both of these popular resorts are located in La Fortuna. This fun little
tourist town is located in the shadow of the imposing Arenal
Volcano.

Day 5. Today you will go on a horseback ride to La Fortuna
Waterfalls. Bring your cameras for this one! The waterfall is
impressive at 150 ft tall. With beautiful flora & fauna, abundant wildlife
and unsurpassed geological beauty, you will create a memory for
many years to come. |
Day 6: You will go on a river boat ride down Rio Frio in the wild Caño
Negro National Park. A bilingual naturalist guide will point out the
abundant wildlife, flora & fauna that call this park home. This reserve is
another important sanctuary for a wide variety of endangered species. Lunch included.

 Day 7: You will go on an easy hike through the Rainforest, with a
bilingual naturalist guide who will point out the abundant wildlife, flora & fauna. When you reach the clearing, you will be at the closest observation point to Arenal Volcano. Being the third most active
volcano in the world, Arenal erupts every 5 to 10 minutes. After
approximately 45 minutes of viewing, you will be able to visit the
geothermally heated Baldi Hot Springs where you will be able to relax & bathe as Arenal erupts in the background. |
 Day 8: Our famous Land-Boat-Land transportation to Monteverde. After crossing Arenal Lake which provides some of the best photo
ops of the imposing volcano, you will be brought to Hotel Poco a Poco. Your Deluxe fully equipped room provides comfortable private bath, hair dryer, telephone, cable TV, DVD, safe deposit box and comfortable orthopedic beds. Guests will also enjoy the heated swimming pool with swim to bar and Jacuzzi. Breakfast included daily. |
Day 9: A bilingual naturalist guide will lead you on an easy hike
through the Monteverde Cloud Forest Reserve. Your guide will point
out and describe many endangered species, as well as educate you
on the importance of sustaining this vital reserve. At an average
elevation of 1,400 meters, this forest is home to numerous species
of wildlife, unique to this area.

 Day 10: You will soar through the tree tops of the Cloud Forest on your canopy zipline adventure. This high flying, high speed canopy course
consists of 16 ziplines, 1 rappel and a giant tarzan swing!!! The canopy
zipline is a one of a kind adrenaline packed tour which is Costa Rica's
most popular adventure activity with thousands participating annually.
For those who enjoy a slower pace: A bilingual naturalist guide will lead
you on an easy hike through the canopy of the Cloud Forest via suspended bridges. Along the way he will point out the abundant
wildlife, flora & fauna. |
 Day 11. Transportation will be provided to Costa Verde located in Manuel Antonio. During your stay, you will enjoy a large room with jungle vistas, featuring post & beam hardwood construction. All units have two queen-size beds, ceiling fans, air conditioning, cable TV, kitchenette and balcony. This tropical paradise is recognized world wide for its beautiful beaches and the abundant wildlife in the
jungles that line them. Breakfast included daily. |
Day 12: A bilingual naturalist guide will lead you on a tour of discovery
through Manuel Antonio National Park. Along the way your guide will
point out the abundant wildlife, flora & fauna. This park plays a vital
role in the global environment as it is home to a wide variety of
endangered species.

Day 13: Enjoy a relaxing day on one of the most beautiful
tropical beaches in the world. Take a dip in the crystal clear
blue waters of the South Pacific. Bask in the warm rays of
the tropical sun, as you listen to the waves crashing and
howler monkeys, (well howling) in the background. |
 Day 14: Private transportation will be provided to
Juan Santamaria International Airport scheduled to
arrive 3 hours prior to your departure.
