"Guy and I arrived home yesterday from Costa Rica, and I wanted to write to thank you for making our trip run so smoothly. I heard references to things running on "Tico time" but all of our transfers and connections reminded me of traveling in Germany, where precision of arrival and departure times is a hallmark. Even though our plane required de-icing in Denver and arrival in San Jose was deplayed for about an hour, our guide and driver, Peter, was there waiting for us. He was quite personable and shared his extensive knowledge of Costa Rica's plants, culture, and economy with us, making the drive to Monte Verde pleasant despite the "massage" from the road...

Day 1: Welcome to Costa Rica! Upon arrival to Juan Santamaria
International Airport, you will be greeted by a Pacific Trade Winds S.A.
representative. You will then be brought to the 4 Star Hampton Inn and Suites located in Alajuela. This is a standard room that offers your choice of a one King size bed or two Queen size beds. This room also comes furnished with a small refrigerator for any refreshments and a microwave oven for your convenience. Breakfast included daily. (Rental Car can be substituted for provided transportation. Inquire for details.) |
Day 2: Transportation will be provided to the Laguna Lodge located in Tortuguero. Along the way, you will be transported
by boat through the Tortuguero Canals. After lunch, you will
visit the small town of Tortuguero along with its museum and
beach. All rooms offer private bathroom, hot water, ceiling
fan, reading lamps, wooden bench outside your room to sit
and admire the gardens. During your stay, all meals and
natural drinks will be included as well. |

Day 3: Start off the day with a sunrise on the Caribbean
Cruise through the Tortuguero Canals. Later, you will have
the option of going on a guided hike to Tortuguero Hill or
another river boat cruise through the canals. There is an
optional night tour to observe Green Turtles nesting (July
through September). |

Day 4: Transportation will be provided back through the
canals
and through the mountains to the Hampton Inn & Suites in Alajuela. This is a standard room that offers your choice of a one King size bed or two Queen size beds. This room also comes furnished with a small refrigerator for any refreshments and a microwave oven for your convenience.
Breakfast included.

Day 5: After breakfast is served, you will be brought to the San Jose Airport. You will make the exciting flight over our small country and
land in Palmar Sur. Transport will be waiting for your arrival to bring
you to the Estero Azul Lodge in Sierpe. The owner of this lodge takes
in injured animals. On the grounds you will find crocodiles, caimons,
pacas, parrots and a friendly troop of monkeys!

Day 6: Ground transportation will be provided to Sierpe, where a
boat will be waiting to take you through the Sierpe Mangroves
and out to the beach front Poor Man's Paradise located in
Drake Bay. During your stay, you will enjoy a private cabin with
all meals provided.

Day 7: Today you will visit the jungles of Corcovado National Park.
A bilingual naturalist guide will point out the abundant wildlife, flora & fauna. National Geographic Magazine proclaimed this area
among the world's most biologically intense places. This park is
the largest protected Rainforest in the country and is home to a
wide variety of endangered species. |
Day 8: A full day of adventure: Today you will visit Isla del Caño
National Park. After an hour of optional snorkeling, your
bilingual naturalist guide will lead you on a moderate level
hike through this remote island. He will point out and explain
the abundant flora, fauna and wildlife. Isla del Caño is home
to a Pre-Columbian cemetery as well as home to several of
the mysterious spheres only known to have been found in
southern Costa Rica. |

Day 9: You will leave your hotel by boat to travel back to Sierpe.
Again this will be through the mangrove system which
is abundant with wildlife. Once in Sierpe, transportation will be
provided back to the Estero Azul Lodge. Lunch, Dinner and Breakfast included. |

Day 10: Transportation will be provided up the Pacific Coastline and through the Cloud Forest back to the Hampton Inn & Suites in Alajuela. This is a standard room that offers your choice of a one King size bed or two Queen size beds. This room also comes furnished with a small refrigerator for any refreshments and a microwave oven for your convenience. Breakfast included. |
Day 11: Private transportation will be provided to
Juan Santamaria International Airport scheduled to
arrive 3 hours prior to your departure.
