Nosara Protected Zone

Nosara Protected Zone

Nosara Protected Zone protects the headwaters and natural springs in the mountains of the Nicoya Peninsula that drain into the Nosara River Basin, which then empties into the Pacific Ocean at Nosara Beach.

The Ostional Wildlife Refuge exists within this basin.  There is a delicate and fragile eco system and chain that exist to keep the famous sea turtles nesting site at Ostional Beach healthy and a viable nesting site for the sea turtles. Nosara Protected Zone is at the beginning of that chain.

The protected zone is 2282 acres in the Guanacaste Province and was established in 1994.  The climate is hot and dry, with the drier months being Dec – April.
