Tamarindo is a small city, and is great for surfers, active couples and families with older children. Flamingo Beach & Playa Hermosa are probably the best beaches for a great all around couples and family experience. The Gulf of Papagayo is home to more than half of the Costa Rica All Inclusive resorts.
The Guanacaste Beach areas work well in combination with Arenal Volcano, Rincon de la Vieja Volcano & Monteverde.

With big waves and plenty of night life, Jaco Beach is a great destination for young surfers or those looking for a party. Puntarenas is a port city that is not a particularly family friendly, unless you are staying at The Hilton Doubletree Resort.
Jaco Beach & Puntarenas are located on the Central Pacific Coast, convenient to both International Airports. Recommended combination destinations are Arenal Volcano and Monteverde.

The Southern Nicoya Peninsula is comprised on beautiful and varied beaches. Nosara and the Mal Pais / Santa Teresa area are geared more for surfers. Playa Carrillo, and Playa Tambor are great family destinations. Samara Beach & Montezuma are somewhere in between with plenty to do, yet fun for families as well.

The South Pacific coast of Costa Rica is among the most beautiful destinations in the country with white sand , palm studded, deserted beaches. This area is known as “where the mountains crash into the seas”.

Uvita is also a good option for surfers and active couples as well.
South Pacific Costa Rica is accessible, but will require effort and money to reach. Recommended combinations include Poas or Turrialba Volcano & the Osa Peninsula.

The Osa Peninsula is Costa Rica’s most exotic and remote destination. The Osa is home to Corcovado National Park, which a journalist from National Geographic Magazine labeled as the the most biodiverse place on the planet.
Beach destinations on the Osa Peninsula include Drake Bay and Carate Beach, which are both family friendly beach destinations. A domestic flight is required to access both destinations.
The Osa Peninsula can be combined with other areas, though will require extensive planning.

The South Caribbean coastline of Costa Rica is known for beautiful beaches and a laid back reggae vibe. This area is different than most other Costa Rica destinations due to cultural differences.
